Phonics Game FREEBIE!

Developing phonological awareness during the early stages of learning is incredibly important and there are times where some students pick it up easy and times where some students need some extra support in developing these skills.

I love using different phonics activities with my students during small group. There are times where I can tell I was losing students attention because a lot of the activities seem to be too familiar and I needed something new.

I wanted to think of a way to really draw my students in, get them fully engaged, and have fun while learning!

I made 2 different Bingo games that focused on skills that my students needed. I made a bingo game that focused on beginning sounds and also a bingo game thats focuses on CVC words. That way I could use these games with some students who were struggling and with some students that needed more of a challenge. Now everyone has a game to play!

We have been playing for a couple weeks and I have seen a huge improvement on identifying beginning sounds and on their ability to blend sounds into words.

I thought you might enjoy this game and find it helpful, so I wanted to give it to all of you!!

Here is a breakdown of how to play these games:

Beginning Sounds BINGO
For the Beginning Sounds Bingo game, I have included 6 different bingo cards with letters and 6 blank bingo cards for you to fill in the letters of your choice. I also included 2 sets of picture cards A-Z.

The picture cards will be mixed up and the teacher will pick a card to display to the students. The students will say the picture name and determine the beginning letter sound. They will look on their bingo card to see if they have that letter. If they do, they will place a counter/chip on top of that letter. The teacher will continue to do this until a student has 4 in a row vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.

CVC Words BINGO
For the CVC Words Bingo game, I have included 6 different bingo cards. I have also included 2 sets of CVC words. One set has the CVC word and the other set has dots under each letter to point to.

The CVC words will be mixed up and the teacher will pick a card to display to the students. You can have the students sound out each letter or you can sound out the letters, or you and the students can sound out the letters together. They will look on their bingo card to see if they have the picture of that CVC word. If they do, they will place a counter/chip on top of that picture. The teacher will continue to do this until a student has 4 in a row vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.
