Monday: Snow Day!
Tuesday: 'The Cat in the Hat'
We made hats and painted our faces to look like
The Cat in the Hat.
We practiced some addition and subtraction with the hat from 'The Cat in the Hat'

We solved addition and subtraction equations to make a mystery picture which was the hat from 'The Cat and the Hat' of course!!

(I apologize if the quality of this document is not great. I had to scan it onto my computer because I created it by cutting and gluing the parts together before putting it through the copy machine.)
We walked around the room and found 2 words to go with each letter of 'The Cat in the Hat'.

We wrote about whether or not we would let the Cat in the Hat in our house. We have been working a lot on our opinion writing and explained why we would or would not let him in our house. I am so proud of their writing!

Wednesday: We read 'Horton Hatches the Egg'
We practiced making different patterns on eggs just like Horton sat on.

We worked on a Dr. Seuss Addition and Subtraction stories book. We highlighted the key words in the addition and subtraction stories. Then, we cut out the pictures on the bottom to act out the stories and write an equation to go with the story.

We really loved 'Horton Hatches an Egg'! We talked about if we would help take care of the egg like Horton did. We continued working on opinion writing and wrote whether or not we would help take care of the egg and why or why not. We turned our writing into a cute craft.

I found this large clear egg and spray painted it red to look like the egg from the story 'Horton Hatches an Egg'. (I didn't get a chance to paint white dots on it though! I will make that my next years project!) We shook the egg, listened, and made predictions on what could be inside. We wrote our predictions and then did the big reveal!! They were so excited that it was candy inside! They love anything that has to do with food.
What kid doesn't?! (...and adult)
Here is the writing we did to go with our predictions and results of what was in the egg.
I copied the top egg part onto red construction paper.

Thursday: 'Green Eggs and Ham'
We practiced decomposing the number 10. I painted lima beans green and each student had 10 of them to place in their dixie cup. They shook their cup and spilled the beans onto the 'egg'. They counted how many landed on the 'egg' and how many landed off the 'egg'. They made an addition equation to go with that.

We practiced finding the missing addend by using a Q-tip to paint dots on a ten frame. We looked at the first number and painted that many dots. Then, we count how many more we would need to have 10 altogether. We used green paint of course to go with 'Green Eggs and Ham'!

I surprised my kiddos by telling them we were going to get to eat green eggs and cook them in our classroom! Their reaction was priceless! They had a lot of fun cooking green eggs. I let each of them add an egg to the bowl and stir. Then, we got to eat them!
After we ate the green eggs, we graphed whether or not we liked the green eggs. We made our graph into a large pie graph.
Then, we made our own pie graphs.

Friday: 'One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish'
We completed an addition word problem mini book where we had to put the correct color and number of fish in the fish bowl. Then, we wrote the addition equation to go with the word problem.

I had students pick as many fish as they wanted from 1-10. Then, they had to color the fish 2 different colors and it didn't matter how many fish they colored of each of the colors they chose. They glued them onto the fish bowl and wrote an addition story to go with it.

We practiced finding rhyming words on Thing 1 and Thing 2.
